| After 15 years as a leading account representative within the flavor industry, Joe Slawek seized an opportunity. The mid-1980s were a time of consolidation among major flavor houses. This left many companies without a flavor supplier that would service their needs. Joe believed there was an unmet demand in the market for a flavor company that could lead the industry in personal service, creative thinking and technical solutions. So in 1987, Joe Slawek founded Flavors of North America, or FONA.
Seven years later, FONA moved from its modest manufacturing plant in Northfield, Illinois, to a full service facility in Carol Stream, Illinois, adding more capacity and capabilities. But without the right people to drive it, FONA would have become just another flavor company.
From across the industry, Joe recruited leaders – experienced, creative people of the highest integrity and committed to personal service. These people came together to create FONA’s industry-leading reputation noted for unsurpassed service, outstanding reliability, and an unmatched dedication to our customers.
As a result of our exceptional people and passionate pursuit of excellence, the world’s leading food manufacturers learned to depend upon FONA. This translated into record-setting growth, leading to an important revelation– it was time to build a facility that truly represented FONA’s capabilities. |
